The Niche Narrower
Most people describe their business too broadly, then wonder why it isn’t sticking with anyone. “I sell candles” gets lost in a sea of candle sellers. “I make candles named after cities, for people who miss somewhere” doesn’t.
This worksheet takes you from a vague category down to something only you could have made. You start broad and narrow it step by step, asking who specifically, feeling what, doing what, until you land on the version of your idea that actually stands apart from everything else in the category.
From there you test whether it holds up. Can you finish the sentence “I’m the only person who makes ___”? Would a customer describe you to a friend in one specific line? What’s the niche you’re tempted by but should say no to? Then you run it through a five-question viability check before writing your final niche statement, the one sentence that captures exactly who you serve and how you want them to feel.
Two pages.
